The “Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries” (SFURTI) was introduced by the Ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India, and Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) was entrusted with the responsibilities to work as a nodal agency for implementation of the scheme. Ziro Traditional Dress Making Cluster, Arunachal Pradesh has been set up by Arun Kutir Udyog Cooperative Society under SFURTI with the vision to and with an attempt to make handloom products & design more viable and saleable nationaly and internationaly by introducing improved technology input, intervention of modern concept design dissemination, product diversification to match the present trends and imparting need based skill up-gradation training etc.
A cluster is defined as a geographic concentration(a city/town/few adjacent villages and their adjoining areas)of units producing near similar products and facing common opportunities and threats. A typical cluster, producers often belong to a traditional community. The existing social practices and choices which used for making typical garments. Ziro Traditional Dress Making Cluster uses science of design technology and fashion redefined each craft as per the demand of the fashion lovers.
The eco-friendly products of traditional industries not only have great potential for trade it also empowers those artisans. With a view to making the traditional industries more productive and competitive they insist upon contemporary designs and modern technology.
Arunachal Pradesh is home to 26 major indigenous tribes and 110 sub tribes. It has rich and strong hold of traditional handloom weaving practice handed down from generation to generation. It is a nature of the tribal society of Arunachal Pradesh to identify themselves from rest which lead them to showcase different ethnic designs and motifs in their attires of respective tribe.
Ziro Traditional Dress Making Cluster have made some tangible efforts with identification of categories, product ranges, diversification of products, introducing modern concept design dissemination, establishment of Common Facility Centre with installation of modern technology inputs, organizing workshops on design dissemination, product diversification & export oriented etc, skill up-gradation training, exposer visits, out sourcing skill up gradation training to reputed institutions & firms and participation in number of exhibitions, trade fairs, buyer seller meet etc. In its implementation 500 weavers/artisans have been involved and out of them 30 SHGs have been formed. They have been issued artisans card, Health Insurance Card, General Insurance etc.
In the dynamic leadership of Haj Yakang, Ziro Traditional Dress Making Cluster is giving an average income of around 30 Lakh per anum. Above all the society shows the way to empower women with enterpreneurship development, hapiness & freedom of self sustained.
