A total of 14,833 traditional khol players came together for a 15-minute performance at Titabor in Assam’s Jorhat district organized by Srimanta Sankaradeva Sangha. Organisers now eye mention in the Guinness World Records for the largest group playing this traditional percussion instrument.
The khol is a drum-like instrument made of terracotta, usually played to accompany devotional music. In 15th century Assam, Vaishnavite saint-scholar Sankardev used khol in his plays and during devotional activities.
