Majuli Island of Assam celebrated 566th birth anniversary of Srimanta Sankaradeva, the propounder of Vaishnavite culture among the people in the 15th and 16th centuries.
The celebrations was continued for three days from October 3 to 5 in various institutions, naamghars and sattras in the river island.
Competitions in Borgeet, Sattriya Dance, Ankiya Bhaona and Diha Naam among the women are organised, besides spiritual lectures and devotional programmes.
Every year thousands of people throng Majuli, where cultural competitions, spiritual lectures and cultural procession by representatives of different communities including the local tribes are organised. This time more than 40 institutions are celebrated this event to spread the message of Sankaradeva among the youths by celebrating his birth anniversary.
