We Annapurna Seed Library, proudly collaborated for two big educational institute of Jorhat district to celebrate World Environment Day 2017 on 5th June 2017. It was a month long initiative. Theme of this World Environment Day was  “Connecting People to Nature”. Hence we decided to connect young students to this beautiful mother earth. By teaching about seed, indigenous seed saving, vermicompost, waste management, pot farming, medicinal values of seeds and plants, identify plants, how to plant tree etc.

Cinnamara Jatiya Bidyalaya

Our first collaboration was with this higher secondary school  located in the area- Cinnamara, Jorhat District, Assam. This school have a unique curricular of Organic Farming and Seed Saving, this course is serving by Annapurna Seed Library since 7 years. On occasion of World Environment Day, we both organization planned to setup a seed bank of Indigenous Seed. Last one month we collected seeds through students of the school, teachers and school administration are also join hands. We collected 100+ paddy seed variety and 100+ vegetable seeds and medicinal plants.

On 5th June, school administration decided to inaugurate this Seed Bank on occasion of World Environment Day 2017. Agriculture Scientist of Assam Agriculture University Dr. Tankeswar Nath inaugurated Seed Bank in presence of Principal of the school Mr. Dibyajyoti Sarmah, educationist Mr. Pratap Goswami and students of the school. Mahan Bora, founder of Annapurna Seed Library was also present and delivered a informative speech for students about importance of indigenous seed.

Jorhat Kendriya Mahavidyalaya

Jorhat Kendriya Mahavidyalaya is a premier higher educational institute of East Jorhat. We also collaborated with this college to celebrate World Environment Day 2017. Department of History, IQAC and NSS of the college has organised the event. We prepared a “Biodiversity Register of East Jorhat” with the help of teachers and students of the college. Three nearby schools of the region was also participated in preparing the biodiversity register. They are

  1. Kenduguri Jatiya Bidyalaya
  2. Rebakanta Baruah Public High School
  3. Sorojini Devi Girls H. S. School

Students of all institute are submitted their survey reports to prepare this register. It was also a month long initiative. Students from 50 villages are participated to prepare “Biodiversity Register”. On 5th June, Principal of the college Dr. Munidra Konwar officially inaugurated. After a brief speech of him, founder Mahan Bora demonstrated vermi compost preparation and pot farming for students of all four educational institutes.
